R. Craig Murphy
Craig Murphy has over 33 years experience in engineering and technology. His career encompasses a mix of senior technical positions and management positions, including senior management. He is a technically savvy thought leader capable of both strategic vision and project execution.
His leadership positions include:
- CTO, Sabre Holdings, for 6 years – responsible for enterprise architecture, research, innovation, and overall technical strategy at Sabre
- Senior Vice President, Sabre Applications Development, The Sabre Group (part of AMR), including the Next Generation Sabre project
- Vice President of Infrastructure and Technology, Galileo International, including architecture & engineering, systems programming, database admin and research
- Senior technical positions at United Airlines and Covia Partnership in systems architecture, systems engineering, software performance and capacity planning, and application development.
Major projects led by Craig include:
- Led Sabre’s first true DR project, introducing hot-warm recovery with RTO = 12 hours, tested successfully
- Led the creation of Sabre’s Integrated Computing Environment to replace legacy vertical system controls with distributed horizontal components on open systems supporting service-oriented architecture
- Led a major offload of legacy technology to Linux and MySQL on Opteron boxes, cutting unit costs by over 90% in shopping and pricing functions at Sabre
- Led the creation of customer-centric systems at Sabre to migrate passenger profiles and reservations from flat files to relational databases
- Shifted availability and schedule processing at Covia from batch to real-time, significantly improving data updating capabilities, reducing a 20+ hour cycle to 45 minutes, with no degradation in real-time response time
Craig has a BSME from The University of Texas at Austin and a PhD in mineral economics from Colorado School of Mines. He is a Professional Engineer (now inactive), a certified Project Management Professional and a Certified Business Continuity Professional.
